In development of humanities-focused exploration, Uniting US is amassing oral histories from women veterans who serviced in the military and stories of women who lost their lives in combat over the last 80 years. Discussions using a chronological review guide of the governing (and changing) policies regarding women in service will be compared to the oral histories, shared experiences, and historical evidence of the contributions and achievements of women in the military. Ultimately, highlighting the challenging policies and social attitudes toward women in the military hindering equality for women over the last eight decades.

The Uniting US group will recount history’s governing policies related to women in the military as the women veterans share achievements and contributions supporting further incorporation of women in service, a review of challenges the women faced in service and as veterans, and stories of women who lost their lives in combat.
Combined with community member involvement, the resulting oral histories and insights shared by the diverse audience will bring awareness to the 80-year evolution, (influenced by policy, performance demonstrating capabilities, and changing societal opinion), of women’s presence in all aspects of military operations.
Events associated with this project are family friendly and open to the public. Contact US if you have questions or want to receive updates for this or other Uniting US programs.
